Welcome

Have you ever wondered what Beach Street looked like in the 1890s? or wanted to see a map of the rice mill where Prangin Mall now stands? Or even where the grand staircase used to be in the Town Hall?

Have you ever wanted to research Penang’s heritage and wondered how to start? If you have – then this is the website for you.

Visions of Penang, is a website designed to help you find some of the answers. Although only in its early days, its aim is to add more and more archive visions - photographs, drawings, maps, and images whenever we can.

We also hope to add Penang’s ‘voices’ - journal accounts and spoken histories of days and events gone by.

Visions and Voices of Penang is a doorway into Penang’s archives that opens up the fascinating past.
